And We Bring the Light

OMG, talking about shocking, this episode was by far the most intense of the whole series..I said series, not season, the whole series. True when John had his heart attack it was a huge of cliffhanger and how or if he was going to survive, but this one with Regina almost shooting Daphne, the Kennish family almost being arrested and, of course, Angelo being in a car accident was just too much for our fan hearts to handle in 1 miserable hour.

For the whole week there were the questions of who was on the gurney and who would be shot, although there were no shootings but the gurney was a little too unexpected for many people. In reality, there were many speculations that Angelo would lose all his money on the restaurant, so the fact that it was being foreclosed is not that surprising, but how is a restaurant foreclosed even before open, that is a heck of a fast process in MO, I guess.

Anyway, let’s talk about the plots. Daphne stressing about SAT is no surprise, many teen looking to go to college would be the same nerve wreck like she was, but the best of it is that even in the bad situation she was able to find the bright side of it. It brought her closer to her father and the discovery that he is indeed a great guy and very carrying dad. Different from John but still a wonderful person and protective of his loved ones.

Toby and his new view of life also helped Bay see her own misery on another direction. After learning that she was not accepted at Pratt (the art school where she wanted to go), she tried to hide her sadness during family dinner but Toby, knowing his little sister too well, noticed that something was wrong and knowing the real reason, he was able to bring the light back in her eyes, even if that meant to do some illegal street art again. I have to say I was really hoping for Ax or Hammer Girl to be back, but the replica of the lights of Iceland was also cool, and a lot less illegal than we though. Bay story was not only how we can learn from bad experiences and live on, as the Kennishes help Bay to lift up her mood, she learns that everyone can fail on something, but the failing is just part of the process, how you handle it and what comes out of it is what will make you who you are and push you to where you want to be. You can see this message as well on the Angelo and Daphne story, when we see Angelo thinks he is a failure, he still takes it to the bright side to help Daphne, when Daphne realizes that just because he is making the best of his “failure” he became the best as being a father and bringing the family together

However, there was another point on the whole Bay failure story that was as sweet and powerful as the previous one I just mentioned, and it actually repeated the point of the last week’s episode. The point is how important a family (or group of friends) support is for every person. We all live surrounded by people that can pull us down or up depending on the “energy” they send to us. Bay was really with the energy low but the family that loves her surely was there for her to bring her energy up high again. How would Bay react about her failure of not going to Pratt if she hadn’t got the amazing family around her to help her see the bright side of life? Everyone can make good things out of bad experiences on their own, but sometimes it is hard and having the family around to help is always a plus. If you remember last week’s story was about self identity and how the family upbringing can influence the person’s character and identity, on this episode, we see again how the family support can and will change a person’s behavior and reveal the true family/friend love.

The part of Regina learning about political corruption was not really much into character on my view. It seems, of course, that Wes is into Regina and her influence in his life is affecting his business, maybe for better maybe for worse. If he is truly falling for Regina, the Angelo accident will be the point where Regina will have the choice to find out who she is and what she wants, if he is not, then we may see that Wes can still have a great business doing things the right way. What just confused me the most on that part of the episode was the fact that Regina was not aware of the corruption that goes around in every business. Her being a business woman her entire adulthood she never came across any shady business or client or boss? Not really believable about that part. Yes, we understand that the political way is a bit different than just a client or supplier kick-back but is not that surprising the way it was showing on the episode.

As a big fan of the Deaf part of the show, I really missed the ASL scenes, but I was really happy to se Angelo improving really fast. What also amazed me was that the whole episode was done in 1 day only. I don’t mean filming it, but the story, starting in the afternoon when Regina was learning how to shoot and Toby arriving from Iceland and finishing on that same day really late at night when Angelo got into the car accident, or better yet, arriving at the hospital. There was no passing of time, no change of clothes from the characters. From the 1st episode until this one, I do not recall any other being done in 1 day only like this one, the closest I can think of was on Season 2 episode 15 (Ecce Mono) that the whole story was a dream and was dreamed in 1 night, but during the dream there were several days going by.

So back to the intense or tense part of the episode, the whole vandalism scaring Regina is starting to get out of hands when she almost shot her own daughter. Angelo was right to think she should stop with the project as she is living in fear and putting people in danger, especially Daphne. What was amazed to see how Daphne was just static looking at the gun pointing at her, did she freeze? It didn’t look like it, it actually looked like she was very cool with it and not afraid at all. Come on, someone, I don’t care who is, if it is your mom and you know she will not shoot you on purpose, point a gun at your face and you just stare at it? What if her fingers get cramps or slip and pull the trigger? If someone point a gun at your face, either you really freeze or you just run out of the way or duck, something, but don’t stare at it, unless you are Bruce Willis playing John Maclane in Die Hard 6 or something.

Kathryn playing the artist agent so they wouldn’t get arrested was a plus to see. The all righteous and well behave lady of the house now became the street savy that basically saved the day, or the night, with her way and her creativity of lying to the officer and get them out of the problem.

As for Angelo, it looks pretty bad for his side, but I’m no nurse or doctor to say, I just was not expecting that they would take the oxygen mask out of his face right way if he is in critical condition, but it was definitely necessary for us , the audience, to see who it was on the bed. Nothing in life is perfect and of course, fantasy TV is not either, it is fantasy and entertainment, one of a darn good entertainment. I wouldn’t spend 1 minute writing about it if I wasn’t happy with what they bring to us, it just some times the flaws are so obvious that is hard not the think about it. We’ll see what will happen to Angelo next week.

So, here it is, make sure to see the bright side of the dark side. Failing is just a process to get to success, how you handle your failures is how you will build your character and the people around you to the final destination of your life. See around you how many people had failed and how many times they failed before they got what they wanted. We know Lizzy Weiss herself had many failed ideas until she finally hit the jackpot with Switched at Birth, and thank GOD she just handled her failures so well and kept living on until she got to succeed, so now we all can enjoy this amazing show!!

Here it the promo for episode 16 (next monday)

Love Seduces Innocence, Pleasure Entraps and Remorse Follows

A finale with a finale style. That’s how we can categorize this amazing final episode written by Lizzy Weiss and Linda Gase and directed by Steve Miner, 3 amazing entertainers that made this episode so rich in details and such an amazing lift up message to all the viewers. Honestly, this episode could be perceived as the series finale if they had to end production right now. All the stories were locked up with an ending or assumable ending like many happy ending movies would do. What is funny was that all the time the cast interviews and media in general kept talking about a big cliffhanger on this episode that will make people hooked to see the next section of the season, which for sure has many cliffhangers that made the viewers curious to know what will come next, however none of them can be considered a big deal, if we don’t have a next section we won’t ever find out, but as I mentioned even if we didn’t have a next section we could assume what would happen based on the overall message of this episode, therefore, yes it will be awesome to have more and know more and develop more everyone’s story line, but there is no need to. All characters had their “Happy Ending” regardless of the problem they are up to face on next section.

The fact that Toby decides to fight for his marriage and go to Peru was a great idea of the writers to show that even young adults can have such a great love to compromise and make their sacrifices for the one they loved. After all that’s what marriage is about, compromise and fight for what you believe in search for a better good for both parties. Yet on following the line of thoughts and message of this episode, Kathryn convinces Toby to go look for his own happiness and his own life. It is true that “when a door closes, a window opens”, life is always putting new opportunities in our ways, we just need to pick the one that is best for us, as long as we follow our heart and be ourselves, who cares what other people say or think of you. The only person that can hurt you and put you down is yourself, if you allow yourself to go down on that road. So Toby, found his window, he is looking for his identity and making his happiness a priority in his life and not letting Nikki’s decision to put him down.

Daphne also got the message when she had to face her fears. Once she decided to abandon her desire to become a doctor, I surely could understand where she comes from. It is hard to know that if you save someone’s life, who as soon as he/she gets better, he/she will be out there hurting someone else’s, is really difficult, but after a great talk with Jorge, she realizes that a person’s life, being her/him good or bad person, is more important than anything. She realizes that she wants to help people, she likes the medical field even with this small disadvantage and that’s what she will be fighting for, to become a doctor. It doesn’t matter if people think she can’t or won’t be able to do it, it doesn’t matter how hard it will be to overcome the disability and her own fears, but if that’s what her heart wants, that is what she should be doing. It is for her own happiness, not for others. One thing I particularly didn’t like is why she was thinking that Jorge was getting back at her, who does she think she is? The world turns around her? Jorge was amazingly professional about his career and her relationship with Campbell. He has improved a lot on his signing for her. He helped her realize what she really wants. What did Campbell do about it? Jorge is mature, sweet and very professional while Campbell still seems like a spoil rich kid that just like to play around. He broke up his long time relationship with his girlfriend for Daphne, what would make him NOT break up with Daphne if he finds someone else? Sorry, but I confess I’m #TeamJorge on this.

It was very nice to see Bay being Bay again and even nicer to see that the stubborn 16 years girl that cause the whole problem with the old boyfriend family making him go over the top of anger and consequently cheating on her is still Bay on her nearly 18years now. Even after Emmett tells her to get out of his business with his new girlfriend, Bay couldn’t stop herself to try to meddle in his life again. When she was 16 and dating Emmett, if you all remember, he asked her to stay out of his problems with his parents’ divorce, although she promised that she would, she could not stop and got in the middle anyway. Horrible move at the time but we understand they were dating then and, as always, she just wanted to protect him. Now they weren’t dating, so her involvement in the situation should not be more than simply talk about what she knows, however she even involved her, then, boyfriend Tank in the middle of her search for the real Mandy story. The difference on both actions was only one, back then, 2 years ago, that made him mad and eventually led to a situation that made them break up, the action happening now made him happy to find out the she still loves him and led to them getting back together. Same action, same Bay, really different results…in one point of view. Some may say that Bay cheated on Tank by getting back to Emmett, so if that was the point of this review, we could also say that the same stubbornness that Bay had on those 2 situations made some one a cheater. 2 years ago, it was all about Emmett being a cheater, now it is all about Bay being a cheater. In this case, I must say, the writers are amazing to put this together. Although both cheating situation are very different and had very different meaning for each character, the fact that Bay cheated now making her hurt Tank may give her a little bit of the feelings that Emmett had when he realized how much he hurt Bay with his action. Now may be Bay’s turn to realize how Emmett felt hurting someone who loves him, she may feel that when she notices how much she hurt someone who loves her (Tank). On the other hand we can also perceive that scene as not cheating as well. Here is why I don’t think it was cheating. First, Bay and Tank were not really that stable, how many times they fought and broke up for small things and Tank had to come back and apologize? And Bay kept taking him back, who knows why? But the fact that Tank stormed out of Bay’s car is an indicator that again, they broke up and if Tank wants to be with Bay he will need to apologize again and hope that she will take him back. Unfortunately this time, she may not want to take him back anymore. Also, for a guy on a fraternity who is in an university, who on the first episode didn’t care about “love”, he heard from Bay all her stories about Ty and Emmett and who knows that Bay is not into him, she was still trying, he sees her going after Emmett’s girlfriend and even help her to do that, couldn’t he just figure out that she was at the edge? She was looking for an excuse to “look good” for Emmett who he knew had a history with her. It was definitely not wise of Tank to be leaving Bay alone to have this kind of conversation or release this kind of information to Emmett alone. If he had stood by her side, he would have been there at the park with her and most likely nothing would have happened. So Tank, I’m sorry man, but you should have been more awaken about this whole situation..you snooze, you lose. The good thing about this whole “break up” part was that Tank is heading to become a better man by leaving the fraternity and patching things up with Marybeth, which by the way, was a very weird scene to see MB all hugging Tank who she hated and barely knows so freely and normally while Travis she shows no sign of affection but with words. Yes she hugged him once when they were dancing but they are in a relationship, they should be hugging and kissing all the time at their age. Let’s just say, it really doesn’t make sense to me. Maybe MB and Tank should be together. Regardless of what the writers has plan for them, the fact that Tank future seems to become better now is what made this finale seems like a finale with a good perspective to all characters mentioned up to now. Tank also stood up for what he believes, for what he wants, it didn’t matter what his friends and father were happy with his decision, what mattered was that HE was happy.

On another character, Regina did great by quitting the job in the first place by not negotiating the deal in the old neighborhood, but why did she have to betray her boss by telling people to get an attorney? At the end, the whole situation was so messed up already that they don’t want her there anymore. Well, that part was a little harsh. If she now started to help the neighborhood, they should be happy with her for doing it. Either way, once she got fired for going against her boss she realizes that it is better to live happily with herself than miserable with someone else. Although we see Angelo not that happy for Regina being fired and not being able (or seems to) to pay for the debts and other life expenses, in the end he did get what he wanted from her, for her not to work for Wes. Regina shows that she also will fight for her own life, who cares what comes next? Who cares what people says? What is more important is her happiness and that wasn’t working for Wes. She stood up for herself and will face her life and the people (including the neighbors who don’t want her there) with her head up and nothing to fear.

Question; when is Angelo learning sign language? The only time he attempted to was still on season 1 when Daphne gave him a glove he signed “Thank you”. Other than that he does make any effort to learn or show any interest on it. Why? Doesn’t he want to learn more about Daphne’s culture? And even Bay school system?

On the other hand, the ones whose ASL is their 1st language was giving us the best show ever as we see Marlee Matlin and Sean Berdy amazing performance when Melody and Emmett discuss about failing History. Not easy to a mother to say that she wants the son out of the house, that part was really heartfelt which was no surprise coming from this great actress on the show. My question is, why is Emmett always failing History when he gets involved with a girl? The same thing happened on Season 1 Episode 12 when Bay and Regina went to have dinner at Melody’s house so Melody would get to know Bay better, right before they arrived, Melody received a text or email on her phone saying that Emmett had failed his History test and she blamed on Bay for making him being playing with her instead of studying for the test. Conclusion: Emmett + Girl = Fail History + Angry Mom. Continuing talking about scenes of Emmett and Melody, it was interesting to see that Emmett had a picture of the Statue of Liberty in his locker when he was storing his backpack and Melody took his phone and keys. The only thing I can think of the reason why he had that was because of Bay. Honestly, that wasn’t an amazing picture for him to be admiring it and an artistic photography, Mandy doesn’t live there and his goal is to go to Gallaudet (Washington DC), the only apparent reason he would be thinking about NY is because Bay will be there for college, so is this a way from the writers or director to give us another hint of what we all already knew? That Emmett still loves Bay. Whatever we think the reason can be, it is so great to see those little details on every prop, set design, clothes, camera angle and of course, the lines.

Following the lines, Renzo speech was the most amazing, lift up, get a reality check speech I’ve ever heard. Renzo was blessed this time with the message of the show, like on episode 8 it was Dr. J, this episode fell on Renzo to deliver the connection of all the story lines and the reason why this episode is considered, to me, a real finale. It is all about what your value in life is, what you heart desires and who you are. Be happy being yourself. What other people wants you to be or think of you doesn’t matter. You are the one who needs to live with yourself and you should be happy living your life the way you want, not the way people want. If you need to please everybody you may never be able to please you. Keep your head up, don’t be afraid and be happy!

That brings me to the last scene of Bay and Emmett. Surely enough it was already expected up to a certain point. Matthew being the one behind the whole Mandy story was already predicted so there was not much surprise there and the promo video released by ABC Family also disclosed a little fight and the Bay and Emmett reconciliation, however there were definitely a little more to see there. The fight scene was really great, incredible how these 2 young deaf actors can do so much on screen. Of course we believe stunts were in place in many of those takes, but from the behind the scene video released by Daniel Durant, we also see that they both did a great part of it themselves. Director Steve Miner also was incredible capturing the angles and making it a very powerful and realistic moment. What people may be thinking now is what will happen with the video that Matthew did of Emmett being “catfished”. That was mean of Matthew, but as for SAB story line, that was just an excuse to bring in a better good, the Bay and Emmett reunion. For 2 years, the Bemmett fans has been waiting, complaining, asking and fighting for these 2 characters to get back together. Bay has been with 4 other guys since they broke up while Emmett was just waiting for her to finally realize that what she felt for him was never going to die. It took Bay 2 years and the risk of actually losing Emmett to another girl for her to finally wake up and let her feelings show again. After all the time waiting for Bay and getting hurt by seeing her with other guys, plus the embarrassment of being fooled into a trap by Matthew, Emmett managed to get his answer back and his love back. Bay also delivered the line that connected to Renzo theory..”who cares?”. Your life can not be depending on someone else’s thoughts or actions, it is about how you feel about yourself and how you let the situations around you get to you. On the same time, she not only lift up his ego and emotions but also came to realize she was lying to herself this whole time while trying to move on. She realizes that she loves Emmett and never stopped loving him, which means, whoever she was with in the past, never meant much to her. The most beautiful part of that realization was that she knew that after this whole time apart, not only she needed to show him that she was seriously in love with him, but she also knew that this love she felt was true and now she could really make love for the 1st time with the man she really loves. It was not sex; it was pure passion, intimacy and love. These 2 work together so well that all the time from the kiss to the end they were perfectly in sync with the other's action. It made the action runs smoothly and beautiful in ever single movement they did while taking off their clothes and kissing. Bay eager to stake Emmett's clothes off and his help even rehearsed 1000 times could not be so perfect and matched even better on the editing (apart from one little detail of his sweater), even to put her down Emmett was careful to lie her on the blanket while with Ty and Tank, Bay ended up almost falling off the bed. This action also shows that Bay had finally found out what sex means to her, she didn’t want to have sex with Tank until she figures out what why she would want that, when she decided to let her feelings for Emmett flow, she had her answer, it all make sense in her life now. Bay and Emmett found their happiness together, who cares what people say, about the video, about the cheating (past and present) about their feelings. They are happy, all they need to do is keep their heads up and live their lives the way they want to and not the way people want them to live.

Cliffhanger here is whether or not they had protection and if Bay will show up pregnant on next season. To my view of the reaction from the public, it is a 50-50. Many people would like to see them getting married and having a family, while some others don’t like to see a teen-mom on the show. I’m sure, whatever way the writers decide to go, they will have a great debate from the fans in regards to it, but in my point of view, having a teen-parent will be a great issue to be addressed and shown on TV. It is a reality out there and many people have already been through that situation. As the show addresses many different situation like the deafness and deaf culture, the paralysis, the teen-marriage, the cochlear implant, the mental illness, the street artist mind and life, the teen-sex (1st time), fraternity life, the sacrifices of marriage, the cheating situations, the divorces situation in a child’s mind, immigration problems, the problems in school system, the problems of kids being bullied and rejected, the corruption in the politics, the struggle of being an artist, army life and consequences of being a veteran, homosexuality, adoption, difficulties of parenthood and not to forget the main theme and character of the show; the problem of being switched at birth…among many others. All of them are real life problems addressed to in the show, so a teen-mom situation would be nothing more than another great real life situation that could become a great story line.

As mentioned in the beginning, this finale could be the series finale because of the whole message, and that’s how I see; Kathryn and John are in a great place of their marriage, Regina and Angelo will be fine since she is doing what he wanted, she also would be fine for standing up for herself and doing what she wants to do and not feel a slave of Wes anymore which eventually could make their neighbors realize that and welcome her back. Daphne is fine with Campbell at this moment and she is happy with her decision to become a doctor, Tank is on the road to become a better man, no need to add more to it. Toby is freely living his life and finding his happiness. Since Bay and Emmett exchange their love to each other, it is assumable that Melody will be fine with that since she likes Bay, the video Matthew did will cause no major effect since like Bay said “who cares?” it is more important that they are happy together and whatever or whoever is affected by the video is not important enough to get into their happiness. So if the series would finish today, we have all the cast happy or in their way to happiness.

Thank you Lizzy and Linda for such an amazing episode with and amazing story and even more amazing message! Be yourself, stand up for what you want and who you are and just BE HAPPY!!

See you all on June 16th!!

The Ambush

Great message!! This time the episode really touched the teen life and problems with both Bay, Daphne, Sharee, Emmett and Toby stories. All different styles, personalities, values and interests but all combined made a pool of what we usually see in real life around the world. Amazingly written and amazingly directed, this episodes explored real feelings and discoveries of the new reality in each character's life.

Sharee faces the possibility that never had occurred to her of going to collage. Usually a girl with such a family problem and low financial means faces the reality that her future may not lie on a college degree job, instead she is usually deemed to work during high school and continue the same way after it forgetting the dream of getting a college education or even a better future. Yes, we see many who fight for their dreams and manage to go through and achieve that dream, but speaking on a general reality, that is not what, we know, happens to the majority of boys and girls who have the same type of Sharee's life. It doesn't matter what or who is helping you, you gotta hold on to your dreams and make things happen to yourself. Sharee took the chance Toby provided to her and she made it happen. She trusted her ability and she got her way to the college by showing the scout her value on the field hockey.

Daphne's decision to start dating Campbell, was for sure a hard one, I hope she understands all the difficulties she will encounter and all the barriers they will have to break through. From her first date, it didn't seem like, so I surely hope she have thought this through before letting it settle. She said herself that she felt sorry for him, like she felt the same one for Travis before and that ended up not well..in a way. The feeling of liking to help or want to make a change in his life can not be confused with a real feeling. That being said, she is definitely on her way for a lot of hard work that can be really worth having if her feelings are real and she is really in the road for her true love. On the other hand, as for a decision alone, Jorge even started to learn ASL for her, he did it on his own, not because she asked for it. He was always sweet to her and made no pressure on her and if even after that she still had only eyes for Campbell, which we already mentioned it on our last episode review, she must be really feeling stronger about Campbell than Jorge. In that, we congratulate her for finding her own feelings and letting it out.

Talking about breaking barriers on a relationship and finding her own feelings, a great turmoil ran on Bay's head during this episode. I really like the message the writers put on the episode through Bay's character decision NOT to have sex with her boyfriend. She allowed her mind speak up and was not into the moment for once in her life. It seems that she is really starting to know herself and not being the impulsive Bay we all know. Bay has been showing, since episode 1 of season 1, she does what she wants and no one would ever stop her, but mostly she is always impulsive and reacts a lot on the moment to discover new feelings and experience a new vision of her life. She is a character that shows she is mostly lost trying to find herself and what she really wants in her life. As many artists all over, the life experiences and over the edge feelings are what gives them the creativity or the motivation to create art. They always need to live the fullest and that doesn't mean they are doing the right thing all the time. Bay, for sure, has done millions of wrong things and just let herself go, but here we see her finding herself again. Her self steem, her own way, her own feelings and showing to the whole world that what she wants and what is more important than a "horny" boyfriend is the true way to go. All teenagers and all adults who have a sex life, should always put themselves first, their dreams and their desires. It doesn't matter if he is in the mood, it matters if you are. If he doesn't understand that, than maybe he is not the right guy for you because the right one will always understand and be there for you. Yes, Tank came to realized that, at least that shows him to have a better attitude about that, and maybe..just maybe, he could have been a special guy. I'm talking danger here, this is a Bay and Emmett related page, but I have to admit, Tank does have some sweetness we can't deny it. But since we are talking about Bay and Emmett related page, we need to mention, it was so sweet of Bay to help Emmett with his cheese (although she was trying to look cool) idea to frame Mandy's picture. We all could see Bay was not that happy to here about Emmett and Mandy again and she showed it even more when she found out that Mandy picture was a fake when she lied to Kathryn saying she was cool with Emmett's relationship, which it was clear that she was not. She was, however, very happy that Emmett knows her so much that she didn't have to tell him she bombed Buckner, he already knew it, she only had to admit it and he, as always would be on her side for any kind of trouble she got herself into.

As for Nikki and Toby, it bothered me a lot that they got married on a hurry with no need to, than after all was said and done Nikki comes back to tell him she is leaving to Africa and if he doesn't go with her than it is over. What kind of relationship is that? Taken from a real commitment that Nikki as a christian should know better, a marriage must be more important than your "call". This decision has to be talked about, a married couple should discuss and get to a common ground where it would work for both, make arrangements, maybe he could go for a month to try, or maybe she could see with her church if there was something local to do before she would be transfer and in the mean time she would organizes things with Toby, or anything that could work around it, not just arrive from a 6 month apart and throw on his face she is leaving. Married couple should not make decisions alone, she is not alone anymore, she has to include him in her life and make the effort to work it out. Marriage is hard, it is a commitment, if she cannot commit, they should got married. Now, people would say that they want different things, but the way I see, they are actually doing the same thing. They are both helping the less fortunate. Granted, Nikki is working in very poor countries while Toby is at home, but in their own ways they are helping the kids to have a better future, to get an education. Even if Nikki is teaching a lot of them and Toby is mostly helping just one, as God would say, it doesn't matter how quantity but the quality of you work. One soul is all that takes to make you a fisher of men. (OK, I'm not that good on religious stuff, but it is more or less around these lines). That being said, both wants the same thing, all they need is to figure out how and where they can do that together.

Lastly, about the Buckner vs Carlton game, I was relieved that Carlton lost. Not that I didn't like the team, but let's talk about reality here, a all winner team against a 2 month (all lost scores) team, there was no way Carlton could win. It was different with the basketball tournament, back then, they were practicing for years and their team was already in place even before John came into place to make it better, but a just formed team like the Hockey Field one could not beat a well trained one. Anyway..GO CARLTON!! Best thing on that was, even though John made a stupid inspirational speech, he did deliver the best line of the episode that also summarizes the message of this episode very well: "No victory is too small". Dream, have your goal, fight for it and even little by little you can accomplish a great victory, in school, at work, in a relationship, in marriage..in life!

The Past (Forgotten –Swallowed)

Sweetness all over this episode was distributed to ever character in a way or the other. Every scene was structured to reveal a “better situation” or “better view” of the facts, information or story. Apart from a few yellings going on with few characters, the episode runs quiet, smooth and most important, presenting some solutions, or seems to, in regards to storylines and plots hanging over the entire season or even maybe a few seasons. The willing to do more for the other and make things better for the other is what made this episode so calm and, to my opinion, soothing after all the drama we are getting this whole season.

We see Toby trying to build the confidence of Sharee to study and pass the test. J&K learning new things together, Daphne making peace with Angelo and Abby and Bay going through the truth about Ty very serene thanks to Emmett.

After Marybeth learned that Bay is still seeing Tank even though he belongs to the frat house that was organizing a dogfight party, she started to avoid all kinds of conversation with Bay about Tank which made a very clear statement to Bay that she doesn’t like Tank. The problem is, as a friend, Marybeth may not support Bay’s decision but did she need to storm out of Bay’s house to avoid the conversation? Couldn’t she just change subject and continue to visit Bay? If she really wanted to avoid talking to Bay about Tank or the frat guys, she shouldn’t be going out with Bay the night after since you would know the subject would come up. Now, really, MB was a little overreacting about this dogfight party. Just because the fraternity was planning the party it doesn’t mean that all the guys in it are the same and Bay has told her many times that Tank was one of them that doesn’t follow the “bad guy” stereotype, yet MB couldn’t stop her anger and to make things even more clear to her she spilled out the truth about Ty not really cheating. It was obvious that she has been on Ty’s side this whole time letting Bay suffer as she did. The real question here is, who else does Bay need to forgive? Ty for lying, Marybeth to let her suffer, Tank for caring more about the frat house than her..and her list goes on. Not to mention the past incidents she already had forgiven. As we see, Bay seems to really not care about Ty anymore, and seems to be either over him and just don’t care about what he did or didn’t do anymore. She still mentioned that she has a lot to think about but was decided not to go back to him and stay with Tank. Let’s just hope that whatever she is still thinking about just dissolve on her mind and let this story be buried with her anger of him making her suffer for something he didn’t even do.

The calm tonality of the episode was also a little off when Daphne yells at Angelo for pure jealousy of Abby. Although it seems silly for a grown woman to be jealous of a baby, it is completely understandable Daphne’s jealousy because she, as a baby, missed her time with him, as her father. But it all came together when she spelled it out to Angelo and we got our family moment, soothing feelings again in the episode.

John and Kathryn couldn’t have been cuter as a couple. It seems like they are on their 20s again discovering life together. Granted they know that is not what is going on, but after last touching episode, their relationship now seems to be starting over with full power and feelings. They are in tune, they can handle each other confessions, they help each other, they are creating their new adventurous life as if they were starting their relationship right now. They are finding out that even after 20s together, they don’t really know each other. This just give us the statement that, who, in this world, knows someone else for real? The only person you really know is you, and even then sometimes you discover you don’t know what you have inside, let alone someone else. The never ending support of John to everything that Kathryn does is just a sign that what they have is the true love and commitment to each other. “In sickness and health until death parts” them, it is jut full commitment.

Great advice from Emmett kept Bay calmed after finding out about Ty, as creator Lizzy Weiss tweeted during the show, who would have thought that Emmett would be “helping” Tank pushing Bay to him? Well, let’s talk about first why is it that every time Bay has a guy problem she goes to Emmett? On Episode 1, she mentioned that she should stop doing it but obviously she didn’t. And let’s not forget that she went to talk with Emmett after finding out that Ty cheated (or she thought so), now she is back again to Emmett after finding out that Ty didn’t cheat. It just seems to me that all the talk from Episode 4 about hurting each other talking about their current dating lives were just a big vent and not really to take into consideration. She continues to hurt Emmett with her constant updates of her dating problems to him, yet he continue strong to take it in and looking out for what SHE wants and how SHE feels, he gives her the most sincere and selfless advices even if that means she will end up running to another guy (in this case now is Tank). On another observation of this small conversation, it does look like that Emmett is just re-living his situation when he started dating Bay after Ty was gone and his advice for her was exactly what he got when they started..he was not the perfect guy but he was there, he liked her and he was trying to be with her. No doubt that he was a little shook up talking her into be with someone else once again, it shows when he hesitated to say “anytime”, that “anytime” sounded more like “not again” “please stop hurting me” with a tone of “anything for you to make you feel good”

On a technical subject, Kathryn clothes seemed to start showing her erotic mind, a very beautiful assemble but, to be honest, it doesn’t look like to upper-class housewife she used to be. It was also weird to see all the emails about Principal Rose being on this episode and she didn’t show up at all, once final editing was done we now wonder what she was saying and how Sharee convinced her to let her play Hockey field even though she didn’t get the grade she needed.

Dance Me to the End of Love

Switched at Birth took a very risky step with the Dance Episode, it was nearly nothing what most people expected, it was not a musical type of show nor it was really a regular drama story line with dancing scenes like “Footlose” or “Step Up” kind. There were, for sure, many surprises as well as some disappointments from the fan base. It was definitely sad that Constance Marie (Regina) didn’t have her own dance, knowing that she has a great background on dancing the fans were expecting a great dancing scene with her, but as we know, poor Constance was injured and could not dance during the shooting of the episode. I just hope she stays healthy until the end of the show, she seems to always being injured or sick while shooting..get this bad voodoo out of you Constance!

Talking about dancing and stories, what was the point of Toby’s dance? So he was “free” from his dad but was it really that important to show a whole and weird dance of Toby? Also, we got that Travis could not learn how to dance from when Angelo and Toby was trying to teach him, yet we got another minute of screen time of him trying alone which could have been used to show us a better part of the story with or without dance in it. Another dance that did not catch much of the attentions was Marybeth and Travis slow dance. Yes, the story was really cute and so sweet words were exchanged but wasting screen time with that little slow dance seemed also unnecessary. While Daphne’s dream dance was understandable for the story of the show as we know, for this particular episode I found it also not too in accordance with the story of the episode itself but the last part of her being stressed out about her decision to become a doctor, yet it was really well done and very enjoyable to watch. Kudos for Katie Leclerc and David Castaneda they have some moves!!

All the “unnecessary” dancing scene could have been substituted by one story I’m sure many would have loved to see, which was the Bay and Emmett spending time together while driving to, the 45minutes away, Las Vegas set or building the spinning art piece that Bay did. It was good to know that it did happen somehow with Bay’s lines but I’m sure that all the Bemmett fans would have loved this episode even more if the inevitable Bemmett chemistry were showed more on screen. And since we are talking about pairing chemistry, it may be just my opinion but I do not see the chemistry between Travis and Marybeth. They are both very nice actors and perform their roles brilliantly but the look, the touch, the tenderness of a couple is not showed on screen. It can be that the writers or directors are making them apart a little too much? I mean, they are dating for a while now and every scene that one of them is arriving or leaving, they don’t say “good bye” with a kiss or hug or any form of tenderness or carrying to the other? That is plain odd to see. Also, yes I’m a big Bemmett fan and I need to be to be writing to a blog made by Bemmett fans but I try to write about what I see on screen and there is no way I can see a chemistry between Bay and Tank. It is still not clear if that is on purpose since we do see that Bay is not really that into Tank. She seems comfortable for being in a relationship she wants to be in to try something different but not really because she has romantic feelings for him. The fact that she took her hand out of his shows perfectly she doesn’t care much for his touch, a big difference of when she was with Ty, Noah or Emmett.

Now, if Tank and Bay are dating and Tank is also on the art class knowing that Bay has a problem with her hands and cannot do her art, why didn’t he offer to help her? Obviously he is not an art person, but remembering Noah was with Bay when she was struggling to get her art piece for her father, even though he didn’t know art, he was there for her, so where was Tank to help her with her inspirations or just moral support? Why Emmett helped her build the art piece and not Tank? My answer, simple, he doesn’t know Bay as well as Emmett does, and of course, in spite of Mandy, Emmett will always have that instinct to help Bay, even when she doesn’t ask for it (it just goes back to season 1 episode 6 when he just took her to look for Angelo’s car in a junk yard) and who is Bay to deny his help? Emmett knows how she is and what she likes and what kind of things and stories will make her happy, so as his romantic ways goes, he did top it all with the story of the rich guy who loved his wife so much that wanted to “build” her memory back to when they fell in love. I’m sure it was not just me who watched that scene and went back to their story. It felt that Emmett, in a way, was trying to bring Bay's memory back to when they were together, when they were happy or when they fell in love to each other back on season 1. If that wasn’t what the writers were going for..congratulations!! You guys made it even without knowing. If that was the meaning of that scene, congratulations!!! We LOVED it!!! And it made so much cuter, sweeter and romantic to see them dancing on that memory. But here it is again; if Bay was really into Tank why did she dream that Emmett was the rich romantic guy so in love with her, the wife, the Las Vegas showgirl? If she had deeper feelings for Tank she would have dreamed of her and Tank dancing, right? When you are in love with someone, can you imagine yourself dreaming about someone else?

What also made us a little happier between Emmett and Bay was that she was signing with her left hand. She didn’t care to try hard to sign for Daphne on the previous episode, but she was making sure to sign enough signs so Emmett could understand her. Emmett knows how to read her lips, he did it for a long time when they started dating, so signing was not really that necessary for her, yet she did it for him, and so far only him.

Talking about trying hard to please someone else, what happened to John? Better yet, lets all give a BIG “Thanks” to Renzo. He just waltzes (or better yet, tap dances) into the Kennishes lives and put tem upside down and took everyone from the boring routine to, what seems to be, the happiest family in the world! Renzo really snapped on John opening his eyes to what he is losing by being a stubborn and who’s to say that instead of making John even angrier it just approach the both of them into a friendship or at least a great acceptance of the new reality and new friends. John family dinner idea was the sweetest and most perfect thing of the episode. The idea of changing or adapting so he could have the love of his life back was the perfect ending for this mind-changing episode.

This season the writers are giving us a moral test or life lesson on each episode, no doubt of it. Yes, the dynamic of the stories are slower and we are still stuck on plots that started last season and up to now we have no switch or ending of them which is causing some bad reactions from the fans and of course this episode was not done to solve or end these plots either but while the story is slow, the messages on the lines the writers are delivering to us are just amazing. This episode, for those who didn’t get it, was about fighting for what you believe, what are the values of your life, what do you really love or really want for you and your life? It took one story of a African-american doctor to clear it up for the rest of the characters, even though his scene was just with Daphne and seems that the story was just for her problems and dilemma, but if you really look into it, see how Travis needed to learn how to dance so he could give Marybeth a happy relationship? Well, Travis had to overcome his deafness that makes him struggles to be able to dance so he could give to the one he loves the life she wants (or he thought she did). Marybeth also needed to change to adapt her life so she could fit into his life, meaning she wanted to be with him so bad that her values of entertainment (just as an example)of watching a movie is not as important as it used to be so she could with Travis. Daphne, of course, if she really wants to become a doctor, she will have to work twice as hard and make as much adjustments as necessary to succeed, but nothing can stop her if that is what she really wants to. Bay said herself and my previous episode review I also mentioned, there are people who can paint with different parts of the body, she just need to work hard and make adjustments and find another way to do her art. That was also showed when Emmett shows her how. She was living in a box and not thinking outside of it, she wanted to just paint her memory, well, first, as Emmett said, who said it needed to be her memory and not someone else’s? Second, who said it needed to be painted? If she wanted that much and that is all she really cares for, she couldn’t let it get to her and install in her brain, and that’s what Emmett did for her, open her mind, work hard, find another way, like the doctor said. Lastly, the writers show the same message when John’s first plan didn’t work out. He didn’t give up, he found another way, he adapt himself as needed to get what he wanted most in his life, his wife back. She is his most precious value and if he wanted her really bad, than he will work hard, change as necessary, adapt and believe in himself to make it happen. Do you see it now? Can these writers be more special than that? IMPOSSIBLE!

Breaking the mood of this review, I just wanted to comment on the scene when Travis is learning how to dance with Toby and Angelo, it was out of doubt, the funniest scene in the whole SAB life, I mean up to this 59th episode. Really great coordination of directing, writing and acting of course..”dance is like making love” was the best line Angelo could deliver in all his romantic French accent.

Lastly, I couldn’t forget to mention the crew who pulled some key elements to the episode, like the Las Vegas street, thank you to the set designer, it really did create magic! The music coordinator who select the songs that was so in tune with the story and the scenes making them even more meaningful and enjoyable! And again the amazing work of Courtney Stern did with all the costumes and wardrobe. Pulling off a 50s Las Vegas Showgirl for Bay and a Broadway tap-dancer for Kathryn was amazing, not to mention, Renzo, Travis and Emmett dancing suites.

How bad do you want it? Do you believe in yourself? And what do you wan the most in your life?

Next episode is the special episode with numerous dancing scenes; let’s see what we will get from these amazing producers and writers that keep us hooked every week!

Here it the promo for episode 9 (next monday)
