Interview with Lizzy Weiss (Creator/Producer/Writer) (w/translations)
Lizzy Weiss
1. What
do you like most on your role in SAB?
I love pretty much
everything about the job since I get to interact with so many groups of
talented people -- writers and actors and editors, heads of department, the
network. However, I spend the bulk of my time in the writers' room and
our room is really fun. We never go a day without laughing and I feel quite
lucky for that.
2. What was the biggest challenge you had
working at SAB? (either character or personal challenge)
Keeping any TV show going as long as we have presents challenges of
endurance and pushing ourselves for new stories that don't repeat. Production
can be a marathon of one show after the other when you're in the middle of
shooting, and one way we've been successful at keeping it fun is by doing a
special episode every cycle. Alternate realities, dance practice, surprise
twists - these keep it fresh for us who are doing it day after day, and of
course when it finally airs, for the fans, too
3. What was the first sign you learned?
I learned the words to 'The Rainbow Connection' from the Muppet Movie when
I was in third grade - and I still remember them! The first sign that I learned
for the pilot was 'Wow' - which is a great sign (you make 'W's' on either side
of your mouth, which forms the 'O'). The scene was ultimately cut as it was
with a character that I killed off… Luke, the little Kennish brother!
4. What
is your favorite sign?
So many. I learn at least one sign a day. That's the trick. If I had done
it since the day I started on the show, I'd know more than a thousand signs.
But I finally wised up and began learning one a day, and I'm getting private
sign lessons with our ASL master Jack Jason. Anyways, I just learned the sign
for 'confidence' today which is 'think' plus 'brave/strength' which is perfect.
5. What
are your plans for the future?
Continue the show, for now. After that, I hope to continue to write and
participate in making more character-driven, socially relevant TV or films.
Bonus (Answer
if you can): As a Bay & Emmett Fan page, would you like to say
anything for our followers, Bemmett shippers and SAB fans in general?
I am constantly amazed and touched by the
passion of Bemmett fans. I will say that I don't enjoy or respect when it
becomes angry or threatening, but I just tune that out and focus on the fans
who send out positive vibes and appreciate and understand the fact that we
don't have to have Bay/Emmett stories every episode, or show every single
conversation between them to assume that they are strong and happy. The show is
about Bay and Daphne, and Emmett is a huge part of Bay's journey, but he is not
all there is in her life.
To SAB fans in general, I've been blown away
by people who tweet me that they have started learning sign language or that
Angelo's death affected them deeply because they lived through something
similar, or other incredibly personal messages. I read one tweet that was from
a woman who watched an episode of the show with her sister and her newborn in
the hospital, the day after she gave birth, with the baby sleeping soundly, and
how much joy she felt, just hanging out watching her show. The fact that the
show can be part of people's lives like that is humbling.
Thanks to everyone for watching.

señal que has aprendido?
Estoy constantemente sorprendida y conmovida

Eu estou constantemente surpreendida e tocada

descontraida assistindo seu show.

signe que tu as appris?
